– Return to the 1970s ? With “Stagflation” ? Not any time soon !!!!
– The REAL reason inflation for the high inflation was the wage-price spiral. When inflation was say 5% then – in the 1960s & 1970s (& 1980s (Australia)) workers/employees would receive a wage increase of say 5%, 6%, 7% or more. But if a worker recieves a wage increase of say 8% then producers are able to increase prices at 8% as well. That pushed (price) inflation to(-wards) 8% as well.
– So, it was large pay rises that fueled (high) inflation in those decades. And that’s something I don’t see happen right any time soon.
– In that regard, I would love to live in the 1970s: Good solid wage increases & (very) low levels of debt.
– Steve Keen has made – in one of his videos – that we are going to see Falling Prices (= Deflation) !!!
– And rising interest rates are actually VERY DEFLATIONARY !!!!
